Including protein powders into your lifestyle is an easy way to get those nutrients that your body needs. For me personally, I need LOTS of protein, especially with all the training that I do. I train hard. I sweat a ton. And I push my body...whether it is running, spinning, or yoga, I love to move and to sweat, but I NEED to replenish my body with all the goods.

SAVE YOURSELF FROM YOURSELF - Chilly Cow

This post is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Chilly Cow®. The opinions and text are all mine.

I will NEVER turn down the chance to write about dessert...Would YOU? I was thrilled when I recently discovered Chilly Cow® half pints and bars for their new campaign Save Yourself From Yourself. Guess which flavor I went for?!?!? The peanut butter one of course!!! There are plenty of delicious flavors to choose from...Brown Butter Salted Caramel, Chocolate Brownie Batter, and Mint Dark Chocolate Chip, BUT, as soon as I saw the Sweet Cream Peanut Butter...SOLD!

SAVE YOURSELF FROM YOURSELF

Before we dive into my full review of this product, let’s talk about my relationship with sweet treats. I LOVE sweets and I definitely treat myself to them, but not on a regular basis. Why? One: It is not a lifestyle choice that works for me. I have many friends who have something sweet every night. That works for them, which is great. Two: My body does not handle regular sweet treats well. It messes up my sleep pattern and can sometimes upset my stomach, so I am careful with how much I consume. Three: I truly do not crave sweets regularly, so I am not going to force something. There are many times after dinner that Shannon has ice cream or cookies, but I choose not to join in the sweet party, because I honestly just do not want it.

With ALL of that being said, when I do get those sweet cravings, I GO FOR IT! I listen to my body. I give it what wants, when it wants it. I no longer deny it of the foods that it craves, whatever they may be. Sometimes it is all the greens. Sometimes it is all the wine, cheese, and bread. And sometimes it is delicious dessert, because who can say NO to creamy goodness?!?!? Life is about balance. Life is about having fun. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them. In the end, when it comes to food, workouts, and life, do YOU. Do what makes YOU happy…RIGHT? So now that I am done preaching, let us talk about Chilly Cow lower calories Ice Cream!

Chilly Cow

What do you need to know about Chilly Cow?

  • These Half Pints are jam-packed with protein! The Sweet Cream Peanut Butter Half Pint has 13g;

  • 55% fewer calories than regular ice cream;

  • 60% less sugar than regular ice cream;

  • 70% less fat than regular ice cream;

  • It is made with ultra-filtered milk…What does that exactly mean anyway? I had no clue either, so I looked it up. Ultra-filtered is milk that is run through a very fine filter for the purpose of removing some sugar and water from the milk and concentrating the remaining protein.

How did I ENJOY my Chilly Cow?

Chilly Cow

With ALL the toppings of course! Don’t get me wrong, they are delicious without the toppings, but when it comes to treating myself to sweets, I like to GO BIG sometimes. More peanut butter on top? YES PLEASE! Homemade granola for some extra crunch? YES PLEASE! The beauty of dessert is that you can never really go wrong with any toppings. Since I do not have any candy in my condo, peanut butter and granola are a “better-for-you” option, but also a really delicious one. I am getting all my macros…WINNING!

Overall, I honestly, really enjoyed Chilly Cow! I approve of the ingredients, the flavor, and the message of their campaign - Save Yourself From Yourself! High-fives to a company that FINALLY has nailed it with a lighter-ice cream that actually tastes good.

GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE

Tis’ the season for LOTS of parties, food, booze, and everything in excess!!! It is a crazy time of year that can leave us feeling exhausted, stressed, and at our wits ends. And we constantly are seeing and reading about how to stay sane…how to not overindulge…how to breathe…how to still stay fit. It is honestly annoying and frustrating. I know that it can be hard to stay on track during this time of year, but it really doesn’t have to be. Keep it SIMPLE and keep doing YOU!!!

For example, if you find that you are eating out more and drinking more this time of year, feeling sluggish and even bloated, take some time to check-in with yourself. Get back on track. Train a little harder. Eat more greens. Drink more water. I am not a fan of the attitude of well I’ve already fallen off the wagon, I might as well just keep going and then I’ll change everything come the first of year…NO! I hate that mentality. It’s not healthy. It screws with your emotional being and it also screws up your metabolism and workouts. Who the hell wants to start from scratch again come January 2, 2019?

I am here for you. I am here to motivate you and inspire you to stay on track. To enjoy life and still have fun, but also still stay healthy and fit. Trust me, I fall off the wagon during this time of year and it’s okay. I just wake up the next day and do my thing. A few of my favorite ways to stay sane and HAPPY and motivated during the holidays are:

  1. Group Workouts – Since I work from home, I sometimes have days where I crave interaction. The community at Method Ride during the holidays has been AWESOME. They offered 75 minute rides during Thanksgiving. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. It was hard as hell, but the energy is contagious and it’s a great way to bounce back after a day or night of indulgence. Make sure to check them out and sign up HERE! And make sure to sign up for fun, challenging group classes that will help you stay accountable and motivated during this time of year. Check out their holiday SALES HERE!!!

  2. HYDRATE – There are a lot of foods during this time of year that my body is personally not used too. The salt, sugar, dairy, those rich buttery dishes of heaven. I’ll wake up the next day with swollen fingers and my tummy will have some aches, but it’s all good, because I enjoyed it and enjoyed every single bite. The best thing to do is just wake up and DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER to flush it out!

  3. Get Outside – Vitamin D is crucial this time of year! Bundle up and get your butt out the door to soak up that sunshine. I am a total pansy when it comes to the cold, so it takes a lot of conversations with myself to go for an outdoor run. But when I start moving and I’m finished, I never regret it. Going on a run, walk, or bike ride is a great way to just clear your head, to breathe, and to check-in with yourself. Try leaving your phone at home too and really embrace the peace and quiet. Guaranteed you will come back feeling better.

  4. NOURISH YOUR BODY – After a night out during the holidays, the best thing that works for me, is I wake up, drink all the coffee, get in a sweaty workout, and then make a GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE and BOOM…I’m back.

I’ve teamed up with Nature’s Greens this holiday season to give you two green recipes to help you nourish your body…to encourage you to try something new…to let you know that it is OKAY to indulge during this time of year, but it’s also important to take care of your body this time of year.

Nature's Greens

Here’s what you need to know about Nature’s Greens, before you look at my GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE and make a funny face. Nature’s Greens provides a line of products that are convenient and easy-to-prepare. They are triple washed and ready to cook and serve. They are also high in vitamins and full of nutrition, which provide endless ideas of great meal solutions. Sauté, add to pastas, create side dishes and my favorite is to add to smoothies.

Smoothies are always a favorite of mine, because they’re easy to throw together, they’re versatile, and you can jam pack that blender with all the goods so you are getting the necessary amount of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. So here’s the deal…Before you make a silly face when you are looking at the ingredients I added, why not try something NEW and see how you feel.

Nature's Greens

INGREDIENTS:

  • Handful of Nature’s Greens Kale Greens

  • 1 scoop of protein powder of choice

  • 1 diced pear (1/2 for the blender + ½ to add on top). You can also choose to use whatever fruit you have on hand. My favorite add in are pears and apples, for that extra fiber.

  • Splash of almond milk

  • Heading spoonful of nut butter of choice

  • Dash of cinnamon

DIRECTION:

  1. Add all ingredients to the blender, except for the ½ pear or fruit of choice;

  2. Blend away until smooth;

Happy and Healthy with Nature's Recipe

*This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Nature’s Recipe®. The opinions and text are all mine*

Life is truly better with DOGS! I cannot imagine my life without them and I am so grateful that my parents raised me with them from a young age. Dogs are such simple creatures. They just want to to be loved, fed, exercised, and to sleep with a roof over their head. And dogs teach us humans that we should live simply, love more, exercise more, and be grateful for the little things. At least that is what I think my little Lucy is telling me. I hope that in my next life that I come back as one of my dogs.

Since graduating college, I have owned two wonderful dogs on my own and I cannot imagine those past and present years without my four-legged ladies by my side. They have traveled the country, eaten lots of good food, swam in oceans, lakes, rivers, hiked the mountains, run on the beaches, and have always been by my side through the good and the bad.

I make sure that Lucy stays active on a daily basis. I want her to live a long and healthy life that is filled with lots of swimming, tennis balls, rawhides, and nutritious food. Rain or shine, I always make time to GET OUTSIDE with Lucy. It is my time to disconnect and it is her time to lead the way and enjoy our “alone time” adventures. I know she appreciates this time together just as much as I do. She thanks me with lots of kisses and cuddles!

For such a long time, Nature’s Recipe was only sold at pet specialty stores, but now I can purchase at Walmart for a low and convenient price. Just like healthy foods for humans, dog food can definitely get expensive, so it is great that I can now purchase Lucy’s food at a great price, that still gives her a wholesome meal option.

 Why do I feed Lucy Nature’s Recipe?

  • High - Quality Protein
  • NO corn or wheat
  • NO artificial flavors or preservatives
  • NO poultry by-product meal
  • Feeds HER life to the fullest Recipes that are crafted to bring HER best!

I am definitely particular about what I feed Lucy on a regular basis, but don’t worry she gets spoiled plenty too. Just like with humans, we all deserve to treat ourselves, but with dogs, it is a must, because they eat the same thing every day! Lucy’s treats include Mom’s homemade meatballs, fried eggs with Canadian bacon and a slice of toast, and dog biscuits that smell so good, I could probably eat them. It is all about BALANCE and making sure I keep her active too, otherwise, there could be an issue…HA!

They both licked their bowls CLEAN! I would say they both left breakfast with happy bellies! If you are looking for a new food to feed your beautiful dog, I highly recommend that you check out new Nature’s Recipe at Walmart and stock up on a healthier and affordable food option for your pet. They will love it and your wallet will too!

#7WaysTo7Up

Raise your hand if as a kid you used to LOVE 7UP! I remember those hot summer NJ days at Harding School Day Camp. My Mom would pack me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich + chips + a piece of fruit + a cupcake + a cold cherry 7UP (I loved that pink can). After hours of playing “kick the can” all the campers would sit on the brick wall and eat our lunches sweaty, dirty, laughing, and refueling for the rest of a day of fun. Oh those were the good old days! No worries, except to just run around in the great outdoors with no electronic devices. It was so simple. It was so much FUN. It was pure bliss!

Banana Ice Cream 7Up Float

And if you wanted to make it more of an “adult beverage” you could definitely add your choice of rum, vodka, and even champagne! The possibilities are endless my friends!

  •  ½ cup of 7UP
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream
