Getting bACK Into The Routine

I will be the first to admit that after indulging on the weekends, I used to spend way too much time and energy with guilty feelings about eating and drinking too much; exercising too hard to burn the extra calories off; and being very strict with my eats. Guess how much fun that was? FREAKING MISERABLE! Now that I am older, wiser, and happier, I have a much different approach to these situations...Thank goodness!

This past weekend was the perfect example! Instead of waking up on Monday morning worried about what happened, I was grateful and happy that it ALL happened! Because summer on Nantucket is amazing and it is all about FUN and living in the moment.  I wasn't 100% that morning, but I knew what I had to do, to get bACK into my routine to feel my best inside and out. Here are a few of my tips + a FUN workout to get you outside and SWEAT IT ALL OUT!

After a summer weekend of indulging the best way to get bACK into the routine is:

  • Don't beat yourself up..just move forward;
  • Drink lots of water;
  • Sweat it OUT;
  • Get a good night's sleep;
  • Eat lots of vegetables, healthy fats, and protein;

And now it is time to SWEAT IT OUT...

Grab your yoga mat, a set of dumbbells, your AMAZING body, and GET OUTSIDE and tackle this fun Boot Camp Workout!!! I put this beauty together last week while at the gym and it is good one. Most times when I head to the gym, it is usually in the car when I decide what I am going to tackle as far as cardio. Then while doing cardio, the workout comes together in my head and I give it a go...I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did! If you have any questions, you know how to reach me. Here are few additional tips:

  • Do 3 rounds of each circuit;
  • Rest 30 - 60 seconds after each round;
  • Do each move for 1 - Minute;
  • When doing the planks, add a little variety...Side Plank...Forearm Plank...Knee to Elbow...
  • Remember to take some time and stretch after the workout and hydrate!

EverlyWell #OwnYourHealth

Have you missed me? I know you have, just tell me YES! I will eventually get back into a more regular blogging schedule. Life is just BUSY! So for right now, I am just doing what I can, when I can, all while making sure I enjoy this beautiful summer and have FUN, but also continue to grow, build, and dream BIG! These summer days on Nantucket are quickly disappearing and I just wish I could slow it down...But we know we can't so let us dive into today's blog post...

I recently was asked to review EverlyWell by the FitApproach Team. EverlyWell provides convenient at home testing. Testing that is ordered by you. And it provides results that you can understand. When you live 30 miles out at sea on an island, this kind of service is definitely convenient for me, so I was excited to give it a try. I have never taken a food sensitivity test, but as I have gotten older and become more aware of my body and what it needs, I have noticed what foods do and do not align with my tummy. So I was intrigued to learn if I was accurate on what foods I knew were not good for this belly!

So this is how it works:

  • You can order whatever test you'd like. They offer: Women's Hormones and Fertility, Heart Health, Metabolism, Sleep and Stress, Metals and Toxins, and Food Sensitivity;
  • Once you order your test online, your box is delivered to your doorstep;
  • The tests are taken at home, on your time;
  • After you take the test, you send it back (FREE shipping) and then you wait for your results;
  • Your results are then sent your inbox! They are easy to understand and use!

Like I mentioned above, I took the Food Sensitivity Test. This test is different from food allergies because a food allergy is an immediate and life-threatening reaction to a specific food. A food sensitivity may cause various physical symptoms over a period of time, and your level of sensitivity can change over time.

I received my results very quickly via email and yes it was honestly VERY easy to understand! The email explains your results and when you click to view your results you are again given another explanation as to how to understand the results.

These graphics are great and I like how all the foods are nicely divided into different groups and there is NO WAY that you cannot decipher whether or not you are sensitive to that food. Dairy was the first group that popped up and I was not surprised by my results. I used to drink milk all the time, as well as yogurt, and cottage cheese. But now, cottage cheese and yogurt are instant bloating for me! I am okay with milk if it is just in my coffee. I miss having yogurt and cottage cheese, for that extra protein, but that bloating...definitely not worth it! Oh well, I am just happy that nuts were not an issue...ALLELUJAH!

This was honestly a great experience! I have no complaints or concerns about this product. If you are looking for an affordable way to do at home testing, I would definitely recommend EverlyWell. You can use the code YOURBESTFOODS and get 15% off your kit. So give it a try if you have been questioning why certain foods are making you feel a little wishy-washy!

Have you ever had a Food Sensitivity Test?

What is one food that you are sensitive too?

#SummerStrong Outdoor Workout

HELLO Summer! I hope that y'all had a beautiful weekend that was filled with lots of sunshine laughter, good food, and outdoor adventures! The sun was shining brightly here on Nantucket and we made sure to soak it ALL UP. Life has been busy, non-stop, run around crazy, but it is beautiful and fun and I am just doing what I can when I can, while still being able to enjoy life...Yes it is definitely easier said than done, but I love what I do and what is happening on this island professionally, so I am just going to roll with it. Still working on balance and the personal side, but that will happen...

#SummerStrong

Smoothie game is still going STRONG and I am plowing through these Bob's Red Mill Nutritional Boosters. I honestly LOVE them and I like the way they make my body feel...the taste...no side effects...and that I can load them up with whatever add-ins I am craving.

Strawberry Kale Chocolate Protein Smoothie with Tamari Pumpkin Seeds

Mango Chai Protein Smoothie with Nuttzo Original Peanut Crunchy

It has been way too long since I have shared a workout, but I figured that this would be an appropriate time since we are celebrating the #SummerStrong and #FuelYourAwesomeness Challenge (which is July 18 - July 23). Moving and nourishing your body go in hand in hand...You need to do BOTH to feel and look your best inside and out.

I created this workout for the gym, but I made some changes so that you can do this outside at home and soak up that Summer air. I am a Pisces...I LOVE the water...the sunshine...and just being outside and of course being active outside. And these pieces of equipment are inexpensive...I believe in having a stability ball, a set of dumbbells, and a jump rope at home. You can do LOTS of workouts with these tools. So pick some up and store them in your basement or garage and you can use them year round.

And onto the workout...Here are a few tips:

  • Warm up with 15-20 minutes of cardio if you want to get in a full hour;
  • Do 3 rounds of each circuit and then move onto the next circuit;
  • Rest 45-60 second between each round;
  • Remember to hydrate, breathe, and focus on form...not speed!

Have a fabulous start to the new week friends!

Has your "smoothie game" been strong this Summer?

Are you taking your workouts outside to soak up that Vitamin D?

Natalie's Orchid Orange Beet Smoothie

I love how my smoothie titles are a serious mouthful, but gosh darn they are so good! And I cannot stop making smoothies because well it is Summer and Summer time is about smoothies either in a bowl or an "almost" empty nut butter jar. As of lately I have been having up to 4 smoothies a week and thanks to Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company I am set for the next couple of weeks. My smoothie game is STRONG!

Typically when I make a smoothie after my morning workout, I just use water...So when I received a big old box of squeezed fresh Florida juices from Natalie's, it was time to take up the smoothie game another notch. I LOVE this Orange Beet flavor! I am not really in love with just orange juice, but I do like it when it is blended with another flavor. It is a nice refreshing combo. Since you do not need to use the whole bottle for the smoothie, you can save it for later and a little seltzer to it, to make a bubbly afternoon spritzer. Or if you have had a really long day, you could do a Summer Cocktail as well. Whatever makes YOU happy!

Today, I am going with this smoothie! All of my favorites have shown up for this party and it is packed with all the nutrients to help you recover after your workout and power you through the morning.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Throw all of your ingredients into your blender;
  2. Blend until smooth;
  3. Top with additional cherries or nut butter! ENJOY!

I am having a fabulous giveaway with Natalie's on Instagram, so make sure that you head on over to my account and enter for your chance to win these delicious squeezed fresh Florida juices. And if you have the time, learn more about this great family owned company

Do you ever add juice to your smoothies? If so, what kind?

What I Eat For Dinner At Home...

Hey Monday...Hey middle of June...Hey where the heck is time going? I had such a great weekend with my little sister and her good friend on Nantucket. We ate...We drank all the rose, in honor of National Rose Day of course...We danced...We just had fun! My little sister is pretty amazing. I learn a lot from her...She is outgoing, fearless, honest, strong, and beautiful on the inside and out, a dog whisperer, and always gives BIG HUGS! She is just a blast and I am grateful for her advice and help that she gives me.  Geez where did all that sappiness talk come from...Onto the food!

I love to cook at home! My meals are definitely not elaborate. They are simple, nourishing, healthy, and pretty delicious for being so easy to put together during the week. I typically now eat 5 meals at home and 2 meals out, which is the perfect balance for me these days. At the end of a long day, I like to be able to throw a dinner together and relax in front of the TV and enjoy my guilty pleasure Bravo TV shows. Yes, I know it is bad, but these shows require no thinking and let us face it, they are comical and definitely entertaining.

So here is what a week of meals look like that I cook at home here on Nantucket Island...

Seasoned Flank Steak with Grilled Romaine - Parmesan - Tomatoes
