16 Getting To Know Me Things

July has been one heck of a roller coaster month! It started out REALLY strong, positive, adventurous, flirtatious, carefree, and flat out crazy and fun! But at the end of the month, I have felt completely depleted, exhausted, stressed, and finding myself just needing to breathe and take some time to myself. It happens...It is hard to go full speed ALL the time. This last week of July is here and I am ready for a new month! It was nice to spend this past week taking a step back and forcing myself to just CHILL OUT!

It is easy to get wrapped into the craziness here on the island and to want it to it ALL and have an EPIC summer, but if you try to do that here, you will be broke, tired, sluggish, and depleted. I always remind what YOU want to do and do what makes YOU happy! With that being said...cheers to FRIDAY and cheers to fun and light heartened post...Thanks Emily for the post inspiration!

16 Getting To Know Me Things

What brings you the greatest joy?

Waking up every morning and realizing that I live on Nantucket Island! After so many years of wondering where I am supposed to be personally and professionally; always struggling with not being comfortable in a place that I was living; and constantly asking myself..."Where Is My Happy Place?" It is nice to know that this is it. I know that you can "never say never", but for right now this is JOY!

Nantucket Island

This is where I feel my BEST! I feel confident, strong, beautiful, powerful being able to live in the ocean; soak up the sunshine and the salty air; and to ROCK that beach hair every darn day of the week. My life here is by no means perfect and I still have slip ups, bad dates, nagging thoughts, and frustrations with my jobs. But being able to step away from these things and walk on the beach is JOY! It puts everything in perspective for me as soon as I step onto the sand or run into the water!

Nantucket Island

What are your vices?

All the NuttZo every single morning! Make sure to use ACK-20 to get 20% off your online order! The crunchy ones are by far my favorite and these nut butters keep me fueled and my belly happy, plus I absolutely LOVE working with them and their team. The BEST!

What is on your nightstand?

At least 2 books, my journal, my Garmin watch, and phone, which I charge both at night. I am currently reading "Here's To Us", by Elin Hilderbrand. I use my phone as an alarm but always have it on silent.

Do you have a secret talent?

Of course, I do...It is called being AWESOME!

What should everyone try at least once in their life?

Something that scares the absolute crap out of them! For me, that was bungee jumping in Switzerland out of a gondola over a mineral lake! Taking that step over the edge and just falling was by far the scariest thing I have ever done. It was AWESOME, scary, fun, and I have no regrets! My Mom, on the other hand, wanted to kill me after she heard that I did this.

What makes you laugh?

Little Lucy of course...Having a dog is free entertainment every single day!

Nantucket Island

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I am scared to death of public speaking! I absolutely cannot stand it and will avoid it at all costs!

What is on your bucket list?

To do a surf and yoga retreat in the winter months! I think that this would be the perfect vacation to escape the isolation and cold months on Nantucket during the winter. Who wants to join me and who has some favorite locations? I also REALLY want to support my friend Andrew and try one of his adventures on a sailboat. How amazing does this look?

What is on your feet right now?

Bare feet as much as possible...Usually salty, covered in sand! HA! Sneakers are always by the side of my desk, along with flip flops right next to them. Summer feet ALL summer long!

How did you make your first dollar?

Babysitting...Of course! When you are the oldest of 4 you start early!

What superstition do you believe in?

  • I never walk under ladders;
  • I freak out when a black cat walks in front of me;
  • I always throw a penny off the ferry when we go past Brant Point!

What sports did you play in high school?

I played field hockey, volleyball, and lacrosse all 4 years. Thank goodness that I did, because I was NOT a fan of high school and being completely occupied with sports all year round kept me busy and out of trouble. And all those hours on the field definitely paid off!

What items in your closet do you wear the most?

I feel like y'all know the answer to this...Lululemon shorts, tops, and sports bras ALL SUMMER LONG! And yes all three of those items every day.

What is the best gift you have ever received?

Giving myself Kala and Lucy! Having dogs in my life is and will be the best gift I could ever give myself. So many lessons many adventures many memories made! I don't need to keep going on about this, y'all know how I feel about dogs!

What is on your kitchen counter?

LOTS of Simply Organic spices...Ninja Blender...Cuisinart Toaster Oven...Coffee Machine...And ALWAYS flowers! With the humidity and the ant problem during the summer months, you do not want to leave that much food out on the counters otherwise, there will be a serious raid!

What would you never leave home without?

I hate to admit it, but I never leave without my phone.

Happy Friday Friends and have a BEAUTIFUL weekend!

What makes you laugh?

What brings you joy?

#SummerStrong Outdoor Workout

HELLO Summer! I hope that y'all had a beautiful weekend that was filled with lots of sunshine laughter, good food, and outdoor adventures! The sun was shining brightly here on Nantucket and we made sure to soak it ALL UP. Life has been busy, non-stop, run around crazy, but it is beautiful and fun and I am just doing what I can when I can, while still being able to enjoy life...Yes it is definitely easier said than done, but I love what I do and what is happening on this island professionally, so I am just going to roll with it. Still working on balance and the personal side, but that will happen...

Smoothie game is still going STRONG and I am plowing through these Bob's Red Mill Nutritional Boosters. I honestly LOVE them and I like the way they make my body feel...the side effects...and that I can load them up with whatever add-ins I am craving.

Strawberry Kale Chocolate Protein Smoothie with Tamari Pumpkin Seeds

Mango Chai Protein Smoothie with Nuttzo Original Peanut Crunchy

It has been way too long since I have shared a workout, but I figured that this would be an appropriate time since we are celebrating the #SummerStrong and #FuelYourAwesomeness Challenge (which is July 18 - July 23). Moving and nourishing your body go in hand in hand...You need to do BOTH to feel and look your best inside and out.

I created this workout for the gym, but I made some changes so that you can do this outside at home and soak up that Summer air. I am a Pisces...I LOVE the water...the sunshine...and just being outside and of course being active outside. And these pieces of equipment are inexpensive...I believe in having a stability ball, a set of dumbbells, and a jump rope at home. You can do LOTS of workouts with these tools. So pick some up and store them in your basement or garage and you can use them year round.

And onto the workout...Here are a few tips:

  • Warm up with 15-20 minutes of cardio if you want to get in a full hour;
  • Do 3 rounds of each circuit and then move onto the next circuit;
  • Rest 45-60 second between each round;
  • Remember to hydrate, breathe, and focus on form...not speed!

Make sure to head on over to my Instagram feed and follow along and enter the GIVEAWAY and of course make sure to print out this workout and give it a try on one of these beautiful Summer days...Oh and if you are just itching to get your hands onto Bob Red Mill's Nutritional Boosters, you can print out a coupon HERE

Have a fabulous start to the new week friends!

Has your "smoothie game" been strong this Summer?

Are you taking your workouts outside to soak up that Vitamin D?

Natalie's Orchid Orange Beet Smoothie

I love how my smoothie titles are a serious mouthful, but gosh darn they are so good! And I cannot stop making smoothies because well it is Summer and Summer time is about smoothies either in a bowl or an "almost" empty nut butter jar. As of lately I have been having up to 4 smoothies a week and thanks to Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company I am set for the next couple of weeks. My smoothie game is STRONG!

Typically when I make a smoothie after my morning workout, I just use water...So when I received a big old box of squeezed fresh Florida juices from Natalie's, it was time to take up the smoothie game another notch. I LOVE this Orange Beet flavor! I am not really in love with just orange juice, but I do like it when it is blended with another flavor. It is a nice refreshing combo. Since you do not need to use the whole bottle for the smoothie, you can save it for later and a little seltzer to it, to make a bubbly afternoon spritzer. Or if you have had a really long day, you could do a Summer Cocktail as well. Whatever makes YOU happy!

Today, I am going with this smoothie! All of my favorites have shown up for this party and it is packed with all the nutrients to help you recover after your workout and power you through the morning.

  1. Throw all of your ingredients into your blender;
  2. Blend until smooth;
  3. Top with additional cherries or nut butter! ENJOY!

I am having a fabulous giveaway with Natalie's on Instagram, so make sure that you head on over to my account and enter for your chance to win these delicious squeezed fresh Florida juices. And if you have the time, learn more about this great family owned company

Do you ever add juice to your smoothies? If so, what kind?

Twist All The Bad Stuff OUT...

"Learn to open to the subtle guidance and messages your body sends to you about what it likes, what it dislikes, what it leans toward, and what it leans away from. Learn to see where it's leading you. Talk to your body. Ask it what it wants. Then let it show you. Respect it enough to listen...

Trust the wisdom of your body, for it often reflects the wisdom of your soul" - Melody Beattie

Running and Yoga are my bliss! No matter how hard, challenging, or frustrating these forms of activity can be, I am always smiling! I like the way running and yoga make me feel inside and out. I like the peacefulness of being alone on the pavement and being at peace on my mat. It is "me" time that allows me to reflect, recharge, and just sweat it all out...that includes both the good and the bad.

So it is time to talk about TWISTING!!!

Twist all the bad stuff out, so that you can let all the good stuff in! Twisting yoga poses are hard! They are challenging poses that can leave us physically feeling frustrated and unbalanced. They also can leave us feeling emotionally angry and upset. All of these physical and emotional side effects are totally normal and you should feel this way because twisting yoga poses are all about releasing the toxins.

Below are some of my favorite twisting yoga poses that help me twist out the bad stuff, so that I become more open physically and emotionally, to let the positive energy in. These poses help strengthen, stretch, and improve my balance, posture, and core. All of these poses are also beneficial to my other activities that I participate in, especially now that I am running outside more and increasing my mileage.

I hope that you will try to incorporate these twisting poses into your next practice! Enjoy!

  • Probably my favorite twisting pose...I could stay in this one for a very long time!
  • Make sure your front heel is intersecting the arch of your back foot;
  • Keep both legs straight and engaged;
  • As you look up...twist..breathe...and open yourself to going deeper into the pose without compromising the form!
Triangle Pose

Lunge With Twist

  • I may be smiling in this pose, but it is definitely my least favorite twist...It makes me agitated!
  • Keep your back heel lifted and your front foot heel flat on the ground;
  • Use your elbow to push into your knee to twist and open;
  • I like to use my thumbs to press into my breastbone to keep me centered and stable!
Lunge With Twist

Extended Side Angle

  • Make sure your front heel is intersecting the arch of your back foot;
  • Use your elbow that is on the ground to push your knee out to open your hip and help with the full expression of the pose;
  • Keep your overhead arm straight as you look up and twist your heart and ribs open!
Extended Side Angle

Kneeling Twist With Quad Stretch

  • Breathe deeply into this pose as this one hurts so good after a long run;
  • Do not let your front knee go over your toes, while you reach for your back foot;
  • Keep your front arm straight and keep twisting deeper into the pose with each breath and as you bring your bent leg closer to your butt. Your quadriceps will thank me later!
Kneeling Twist With Quad Stretch

Seated Twist

  • Remember to keep your straight leg flexed and your bent knee foot flat on the ground;
  • Keep your straight arm close to your side to help your stay tall and with good form;
  • Use your bent elbow to also stay tall, but help you twist deeper into the twist!
Seated Twist

Seated Twist With Bind:

  • Take your seated twist just a little bit further and deeper, by wrapping your arm around your back and connecting with your front hand and hold;
  • Remember to keep both hips on the ground (as soon as one pops up, back off the pose)
  • Keep your posture tall and straight and twist...breathe...twist deeper!
Seated Twist With Bind

What is your favorite and least favorite TWISTING yoga pose?
