HELLO October
“a month where natures shows the beauty of change and letting go…reminding us that just like the trees, that release their colorful autumn leaves, we have the ability to let go…for it is the only way to make room for the new to grow” - unknown
HELLO beautiful October! There have been a lot of breakdowns, but also major breakthroughs. I have felt myself being tested in multiple ways, but I have been doing the WORK, staying positive, manifesting, journaling, and always healing. It is hard to put into what has transpired over the past couple of months, because it was intense and a total doozie, but it has made me stronger, lighter, happier, and a little wiser. I always say that healing is NEVER linear…Healing can be really messy. It can feel like you are going crazy, alienated, icky, detached, and dark. It can get ugly, but it also can be truly beautiful. It is just how you handle them, how you work through them, and how you learn from them.
I would like to say to myself that at the end of these past two months…Underneath all the bullshit, there you are. Different, brand new, born again, and you’re never going back. RIP old self. You served a great purpose!
October truly feels like a fresh start! The weather has been incredible lately, so more outdoor runs and long walks with Lucy have felt refreshing and inspiring, rather than depleting sticky from the heat and humidity. I am working on lots of great projects with brand new companies. I am getting a serious itch to travel, whether for 1/2 marathons or even a surf retreat…YES! I have also said YES to a lot of things that typically are out of my comfort zone! One day at a time…One step a time…October I welcome you with open arms…Let’s GO!
WORKOUTS
I signed up for a 1/2 marathon about 4 weeks ago randomly because I was getting the itch to run and train on a schedule and the timing seemed perfect as the weather had started to shift. I know…a little crazy, but here I am just a few days before it and I didn’t do my 12 miles and the thought of running is making me cringe. WILD mood change right?!?! My mind is playing games on me and with Aunt Flow arriving a few days ago, it all kind of screwed up my game plan. Whenever it’s that time of the month, I always feel a little depleted and running is the last kind of workout I want to do. I usually opt for heavy lifting and yoga, which is totally normal for women to gravitate towards. I didn’t push the mileage, instead I kept working out
SO…On Saturday at 8:00 AM I will be doing the Lowcountry Trail 1/2 Marathon! I have no idea what to expect, if it will be crowded, but the weather looks promising, and I am just going to put on some good tunes, fuel properly, and do what I love my body to do…Train hard…Run fast…Sweat…and enjoy the beautiful outdoors!
I will do a blog next week of the recap and how I trained, gear I used, what I ate…all the good things, so stay tuned! Interested to see how this goes, so wish me luck!
FOOD
Pumpkin sourdough rolls are fueling my RUNS and I am so here for it! These rolls are the absolute best and damn do they make my belly happy and my body happy when I head on the door early the next day! Holy City Sourdough is my new sponsor…LOL…I message her all the time about how delicious they are, so if you are in Charleston, place your order and she will hand deliver warm, freshly baked sourdough bread, made with only 3-4 ingredients!!! My favorite way to eat them is as an open faced sandwich with all the toppings please!
Other eats have included the usuals…Japanese sweet potatoes, salmon, chicken, eggs, oatmeal, vegetables, and I am slowly bringing back in apples…the usuals, but with the change in seasons, I notice my taste buds and cravings have changed a little bit. I love how that happens, it’s pretty damn cool! I am craving them like crazy, but they usually leave me pretty bloated, so I have to saute them a little bit and that seems to do the job. As far as eating out, I have a lot of “dates” this month at new places with friends, so I am excited to get out of my comfort zone and try new things…Review will be coming so make sure you are following me on Instagram, as that’s where I will be sharing them!
READING
Can’t stop and won’t stop reading ALL the books! I just finished “The Perfect Marriage” and I am going to start “The Paris Apartment” next. I get most of my reading recommendations from my friends I follow on Instagram. It’s fun and easy and everyone leaves great reviews that are simple and a usual quick yes or no for me. I love it and love that I have a community of book nerds on a social platform.
DONELAN WINES
LOVE this family…LOVE the wine…LOVE that we have established a personal and professional relationship to work together to share the word about these amazing wines!
Donelan Wines is family owned and operated in Sonoma and produces 100pt Syrahs as well as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They value quality over EVERYTHING in producing flavorful, delicious and balanced wines that are incredibly food friendly. Definitely make sure to follow, learn and shop this family brand, because not only are they serious about it, but they also LOVE to have fun!!! The brand was started by Joe Donelan’s love of wine, people, travel and education. He would tour the Rhone region and fell in love with their celebration of life, family and how wine was at the center of it. He wanted to start something that would become that for his family and future generations.
Their most popular wines are:
Nancie Chardonnay
Two Brothers Pinot Noir
Christine Syrah
They are sold mostly direct to consumer, so through the website and winery (if you are lucky enough to visit…I need to go!!!), but are available in retail/restaurants in about 10 states as well as the UK, Europe and Asia.
Our relationship is built around a LOVE for wine and our LOVE for Nantucket! I was so grateful to have met Joe Donelan last winter on Nantucket. His passion and enthusiasm for wine was contagious and I learned so much in that quick hour that we were together. I am looking forward to seeing where our partnership goes and develops, so stay tuned for more wine talk and make sure to check out a WINE GIVEAWAY next week. It’s one you do not want to miss!
