Meet MEG - Owner of The Method Studios
Hi FRIENDS... It has been way too long since I have put a spotlight on someone who inspires me and now more than ever it is TIME to do that! Honestly, I cannot imagine owning a small business right now. I admire my friends who are busting their butts day in and day out to stay afloat, to follow the rules, to support their families, to get creative, and the list goes on and on... It’s A LOT!
NOW is the time to support these businesses! Give them some LOVE...show up, tag them on social media, give them reviews, do what you can, because it is the little things that matter and they appreciate it more than you know.
I want to introduce you to MEG the owner of Method! We have known each other for almost as long as I have lived here. She is a badass businesswoman, entrepreneur, Mom, and friend. She has some insane energy and I applaud her for all that she does and is doing. Learn more about her and then come join me at Method for some sweaty FUN!
Hi, I’m Meg…
I was born and raised in Lakeville, MN - a town very similar to Mount Pleasant, SC in a lot of ways. I owned my first home at age 19 - I have had a career as a hairstylist and worked on-air in sports radio. I moved to NYC in my early 20's - worked at a media company and then made my way into the fitness industry with companies including New York Yoga, Scarsdale Yoga, Equinox, SoulCycle, and JoyRide. During all those years, I went back to school and had a stint in on-air broadcast journalism. I moved to Charleston 5 years ago, got married at Cannon Green to my husband, Dave - we have two daughters, Ramona and Roxanne. To keep it short, they are simply just the best.
When I moved to Charleston, I worked briefly at a cycle studio and quickly realized I could put my energy in at that company or I could do my own thing. I knew exactly what I wanted for Method, but honestly, it took me a couple of years to get the classes to how I wanted them and to change my mindset from employee to entrepreneur. Mind you, I was pregnant or feeding a child for 4 years straight... that in itself a full-time job and an incredible non-stop drop on a rollercoaster. Method has always done well, but this past year I have gone ahead and taken control of the things that don't fit the brand and vision, from the staff I keep to the color of the walls. There was a noticeable switch in me and the business that is felt visible and felt during the Method experience.
Do you notice how I've been saying "Method" and not "MethodRide"?
We are smack dab in the middle of HUGE growth for the studio and all studios going forward. MethodRide is a soulful, beat-driven workout done in candlelight. The coaches follow an intelligently crafted Method that makes us stand out from other cycle classes in town. While The Ride is obviously magical, over a year ago I began thinking about how I could take what we are doing and put the same let your mind go magic into other workouts. I don't even like using the word "workout" because it is so much more. SO...MethodRide is now The Method Studios! Website, signs, and social media changes are in the works...BOOM!
Method Studios are two studios under one roof. The Ride and The Lab. (Fun fact: when we were training the first group of coaches, we called the training space "The Lab") The Lab holds personal training sessions and small group personal training classes; alongside beat-driven Yoga Fusion and Yoga Sculpt classes, and Power Yoga. The founder’s SALE for this new format is available now.
2020 has brought and will continue to bring all sorts of unexpected challenges for everyone, but it's happening and I had two roads to choose from: either I could dwell, bitch and feel sorry for myself OR I could pull up my alo high waisted airlift leggings (fav), put one foot in front of the other and move down a new road. After a brief stroll down depression lane, I ran back and made the choice to not do that to myself, to business or my family.
It's a mess, it's unknown, it's scary on multiple levels but that's life baby and I choose every day to just go for it shamelessly. We're in it, we only get one that I know of so let's just do this thing!
And because I’m ALWAYS curious as to how others view self-care, I asked Megan what her ideal “self-care” day would be like, because we NEED these kinds of days!
Ok, a self-care day...YES PLEASE!
It would start with Mary-freakin-Poppins showing up at my door for the girls. I would then sleep another 2 hours, walk back up at 7 am and have a coconut milk Mexican fox mocha from Brown Fox Coffee. I would take a Method Ride class or Method Sculpt class - either are my jam. I know you said my day doesn't have to involve fitness but let's be real here, sweating it out and letting go like that are imperative to self-care and staying out of that path of depression. Then I would go downtown and browse through clothing shops and art studios. Head over to Sullivans Island for a King's Honey, the Local Lettuce Salad, and too many Oysters at The Obstinate Daughter. Hang by the beach for a couple of hours. Go home and watch tv in bed without my children until night falls.
Thank you, Meg, you are the BEST and I am so glad that we have met, that I get to ride with you on a weekly basis, and that you are becoming a very close friend! Grateful for YOU and what YOU do for this community!
Make sure to keep up to date with all the things METHOD and sign up for some classes now, because we all need to sweat out the crazy!
xoxo
