GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE
Tis’ the season for LOTS of parties, food, booze, and everything in excess!!! It is a crazy time of year that can leave us feeling exhausted, stressed, and at our wits ends. And we constantly are seeing and reading about how to stay sane…how to not overindulge…how to breathe…how to still stay fit. It is honestly annoying and frustrating. I know that it can be hard to stay on track during this time of year, but it really doesn’t have to be. Keep it SIMPLE and keep doing YOU!!!
For example, if you find that you are eating out more and drinking more this time of year, feeling sluggish and even bloated, take some time to check-in with yourself. Get back on track. Train a little harder. Eat more greens. Drink more water. I am not a fan of the attitude of well I’ve already fallen off the wagon, I might as well just keep going and then I’ll change everything come the first of year…NO! I hate that mentality. It’s not healthy. It screws with your emotional being and it also screws up your metabolism and workouts. Who the hell wants to start from scratch again come January 2, 2019?
I am here for you. I am here to motivate you and inspire you to stay on track. To enjoy life and still have fun, but also still stay healthy and fit. Trust me, I fall off the wagon during this time of year and it’s okay. I just wake up the next day and do my thing. A few of my favorite ways to stay sane and HAPPY and motivated during the holidays are:
Group Workouts – Since I work from home, I sometimes have days where I crave interaction. The community at Method Ride during the holidays has been AWESOME. They offered 75 minute rides during Thanksgiving. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. It was hard as hell, but the energy is contagious and it’s a great way to bounce back after a day or night of indulgence. Make sure to check them out and sign up HERE! And make sure to sign up for fun, challenging group classes that will help you stay accountable and motivated during this time of year. Check out their holiday SALES HERE!!!
HYDRATE – There are a lot of foods during this time of year that my body is personally not used too. The salt, sugar, dairy, those rich buttery dishes of heaven. I’ll wake up the next day with swollen fingers and my tummy will have some aches, but it’s all good, because I enjoyed it and enjoyed every single bite. The best thing to do is just wake up and DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER to flush it out!
Get Outside – Vitamin D is crucial this time of year! Bundle up and get your butt out the door to soak up that sunshine. I am a total pansy when it comes to the cold, so it takes a lot of conversations with myself to go for an outdoor run. But when I start moving and I’m finished, I never regret it. Going on a run, walk, or bike ride is a great way to just clear your head, to breathe, and to check-in with yourself. Try leaving your phone at home too and really embrace the peace and quiet. Guaranteed you will come back feeling better.
NOURISH YOUR BODY – After a night out during the holidays, the best thing that works for me, is I wake up, drink all the coffee, get in a sweaty workout, and then make a GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE and BOOM…I’m back.
I’ve teamed up with Nature’s Greens this holiday season to give you two green recipes to help you nourish your body…to encourage you to try something new…to let you know that it is OKAY to indulge during this time of year, but it’s also important to take care of your body this time of year.
Here’s what you need to know about Nature’s Greens, before you look at my GREEN MONSTER SMOOTHIE and make a funny face. Nature’s Greens provides a line of products that are convenient and easy-to-prepare. They are triple washed and ready to cook and serve. They are also high in vitamins and full of nutrition, which provide endless ideas of great meal solutions. Sauté, add to pastas, create side dishes and my favorite is to add to smoothies.
Smoothies are always a favorite of mine, because they’re easy to throw together, they’re versatile, and you can jam pack that blender with all the goods so you are getting the necessary amount of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. So here’s the deal…Before you make a silly face when you are looking at the ingredients I added, why not try something NEW and see how you feel.
INGREDIENTS:
Handful of Nature’s Greens Kale Greens
1 scoop of protein powder of choice
1 diced pear (1/2 for the blender + ½ to add on top). You can also choose to use whatever fruit you have on hand. My favorite add in are pears and apples, for that extra fiber.
Splash of almond milk
Heading spoonful of nut butter of choice
Dash of cinnamon
DIRECTION:
Add all ingredients to the blender, except for the ½ pear or fruit of choice;
Blend away until smooth;
Add the remainder of fruit on top or even some nut butter;
ENJOY!
