A Weekend Well Spent

Once this post has been sent out, I will be on my way to pick up Shannon from the airport. He left on Friday morning for Wisconsin to go home and see family and friends. I decided not to go, as I had some prior engagements already scheduled and we are heading up there in a couple of weeks for a wedding, so it was all good. Plus, some alone time is good for the soul and makes the heart grow fonder...RIGHT?!?!

I had a full weekend to myself and it was a weekend well spent. Fall arrived on Saturday morning and stayed with us all weekend through Monday. It was cool, windy, and the quick change of season brought about new energy for me. I soaked it up, opened all the windows, and enjoyed the alone time with Lucy. What exactly did I do with myself? Well, let me tell you...

I tackled an 8-mile run…

I was determined to do those 8 miles and I did them, but it wasn’t perfect or pain-free. I probably pushed it a little too hard, but it is what is, and I wanted to see just how far I could go. I am a little kookie when it comes to doing a longer run. I pick the day and then I focus on it, plan my meals to make sure I am fueled properly, I lay my clothes out the night before, and I think about it a lot. Weird...I told you I am kookie. It is kind of what I used to do before field hockey games in college. Old habits never go away...LOL!

Anyway...I shared a few thoughts that were going through my head on this run in a recent Instagram POST! I will do a shorter run this week and then try to do another 8 or even 9 the following week.

I finished The Matchmaker by Elin Hildebrand...

I needed this type of book to switch things up. It was easy, fun, brought back SO MANY memories about Nantucket, it made me laugh, cry, and I just enjoyed it. If you are looking for a good beach read, even though Fall is here, this is one I would recommend.

*Side Note* - I needed to read about Nantucket. I miss that beautiful little island. It’s hard to believe that I have now missed two summers going up there and it does make me sad. I miss that super salty water, breakfast sandwiches from Bartlett’s Farm, Step’s Beach, oysters and champagne at Cru, boat rides out to Wauwinet....AHHH...With everything that has been going on in the #2020shitshow I honestly do not want to go up there when things aren’t “normal”. It takes away from the happy memories, so I think I will just have to wait. As I write this I am almost tearing up, because of all the memories that I have had there, with my Dad, my family, and my friends. It is such a special place!

I took a nap…

I don’t nap, like hardly EVER, but after I came back from my run on Saturday, I put on a comfy t-shirt, curled up on the couch, and passed out for over an hour. It was pure bliss!!! The windows were open, Lucy was curled up on the floor right next to me, and it was peaceful and quiet. Lately on the weekends, I have been allowing myself to just BE! During the week, I wake up anywhere between 5:00 - 5:30 AM, so it is nice to slow down, sleep in, and let my body recover on the weekends. Maybe these weekend naps will happen more often, now that it is cooler? I’d be okay with that!

I tried a new restaurant with my girlfriends…

My girlfriends have been talking about Savi Cucina + Wine Bar for months and I finally said YES let’s go and eat all the pasta and drink all the wine. And did we eat!!! The restaurant is right down the road from all of us, so it is easy to get too.

It was packed...The decor and ambiance is beautiful...The service was great...The prices are reasonable (the Happy Hour is great)...The food was DELISH...but the wine was oh so good (we actually sat in the wine room)!!! I was able to talk to the owners, who actually live right across the street from us. I will share more about this restaurant, the story, the experience, the food, the wine, in another post.

I loved going out with my girls, dressing up, and trying a new restaurant! It made me so happy though to see the restaurant packed and buzzing with good energy. People want to be OUT and I was happy to be out and supporting a local business.

I soaked up the cooler air and spent some time just relaxing in the peace and quiet…

It is amazing to me how the temperatures can drop thirty degrees overnight and then it is HELLO FALL! But then again, nothing really seems to be normal this year, so we might as well just go with it. I love summer and the humidity and heat down here, but I do have to say that the cooler air was welcomed this weekend. Curling up on the couch with a blanket and a good book and Lucy by my side was pure bliss. I needed this time alone to reset, regroup, and recharge.

It was really quiet without Shannon and by the end of the weekend, I was ready for him to come back. I am pretty sure that Lucy was missing him as well. Each night she would sleep on his side of the bed (not on the bed, of course).

 Have a beautiful week friends!

xoxo
