5 SIMPLE WAYS TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER AN INDULGENT WEEKEND

OH WISCONSIN! You always seem to do a number on me…I LOVE to come and visit you and have all the FUN, but gosh darn, I never really leave that normal. YES, I leave with a big ass smile, a nice tan, but my gut, well that is a WHOLE different story! Cheese curds, lots of fried food, pizza, beer…definitely not used to it and at 40 years old, it takes me a little bit longer to recover.

HEALTHY LIVING

How do I bounce back…A lot of sweating, but also nourishing. That is why I want to introduce y’all to my social media/pen pal friend Lauren, who is a Holistic Nutritionist, Published Author, and Recipe Developer. We have worked together in the social media world with the brands that we represent and then we connected on a personal level.

I love her approach to nutrition. Real Life. Real Food. No Bull Shit. We love to talk about gut health, nourishment, recipes, and just how we are working on living our best lives from the inside out. And she is definitely going to be making a regular appearance here, because I love her passion and knowledge. It is simple, straight to the point, and information that everyone can understand and follow. Okay, I am done blabbing…Take it away lady…

We’ve all been there.

HEALTHY LIVING

For some it’s a vacation or travel that leaves us feeling bloated, puffy and “heavy.”

For others, it’s an indulgent night out, or weekend(s).

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to feeling “FLUFFY” and “BLAH”

For starters, the liver, our King of “detox” organ, is constantly working to process the everyday toxicity in our lives. So when we add to it’s workload, be it with alcohol, heated fats/oils, excess animal protein, processed foods, or all of the above, and couple it with less sleep, and lack of water… it’s a recipe for feeling BLAH!!!

We are all different. EVERY body is different.

Some of our bodies are dealing with more stress on the regular, so it might not take a whole lot to throw you off your game… It might take a few more days to “get back” to normal than your BFF.

But relax.

It’s all going to be okay.

HEALTHY LIVING

These 5 simple steps can help ANY body get their groove back quickly, and with very little effort.

1. HEY WATER

Your intestines are a whopping 30 feet long. When you are not “going” #2 (and I mean like daily, and multiple times a day), and instead you are peeing out liquid, you are dehydrating waste in the body.

Flying (elevation), drinking alcohol and coffee, exercise, sweating, the heat of summer, etc. can all cause us to lose liquid.

When waste doesn’t leave in a timely manner, it can create a sticky situation backing you up, leaving you feeling bloated, and causing extra stress on the liver, and other vital organs.

Drinking 16 ounces of room temperature water FIRST THING on an empty stomach in the morning can help to hydrate waste and get things moving. Do this DAILY. Before coffee. Before tea. Before green juice… Heck. Even before you brush your teeth…

Why room temperature?

Cold water constricts the intestines, so make sure it is warm, hot, or room temp.

Ideally, you will want to drink ½ your body weight in ounces per day. Aiming for 32 ounces in the morning, prior to coffee, and other liquids is ideal.

Easy. It’s water.

2. Organic Green Tea.

The body can release toxins and extra fluids through urination. Like coffee, tea containing caffeine can act as a diuretic, and cause more frequent urination (So it can help with fluid retention). Unlike coffee, however, which is not only more acidic in the body, but also irritating to the liver, green tea may also help to increase enzyme activity within the liver, protecting it, while also enhancing the body’s ability to naturally “detoxify” itself. One of the liver’s many responsibilities.

Whether you are drinking tea OR coffee… PLEASE make sure it is organic. Both tea leaves and coffee beans are highly sprayed with pesticides.

Pesticides = stress on the liver.

Stress on the liver = sluggish metabolism, poor immune system, and likely poor mental health.

3. A good probiotic.

I am sure you are catching on… there is a theme here and it’s called… Superior Digestion and Immune support. A high quality probiotic is essential for ideal digestion, and a clear mind. When your body is properly absorbing nutrients from your food and then getting RID of the waste… you’ve got an ideal situation.

AKA: You are getting the ENERGY (nourishment)  your body needs from your meals (in the form of vitamins, minerals, etc) and then it is taking out the trash. Trash wears you down, steals your energy, and can leave you feeling bloated, imbalanced, anxious and depressed.

Probiotics help to strengthen your digestion and immune system so that an indulgent weekend, or trip, doesn’t set you back. It’s kind of like the ideal insurance policy. You go into each new scenario already covered… so your comeback is quicker, instead of being wiped out and having to start start from ground zero each time.

4. Magnesium in the evening.

Whether you are stressed about feeling bloated, or just stressed in general… Magnesium is an alkalizing mineral that is absolutely essential for a calm mind, body, and ideal digestion. When we are stressed, (just like when we are cold), we tighten and constrict our muscles. The same thing happens with our intestines. Imagine that your intestines are like a garden hose.

Now, in your mind, pinch it closed.

Ah.

See.

Stops up the water flow, eh? We want to keep the flow open. Taking magnesium in the evening:

  • Calms your mind.

  • Naturally reduces anxiety.

  • Can improve sleep quality (which is necessary for any recovery).

  • Gently and naturally relaxes your intestines so waste can move on through.

  • Helps you react to stressors more gracefully.

If you find that your naturally wound up, suffer from insomnia, anxiety, depression, poor digestion-- you are probably magnesium deficient.

5. Keep meals SIMPLE. I know we all read about the latest superfood of the month, and then start adding it to all the things… hemp seeds here, and avocado there, and we then pile it high on a breakfast burrito, and expect it to become magically more nutritious... but that’s not how it works.

Especially, when we are feeling BLAH-- We need to keep it simple to give the body a moment to recover.

My challenge to you is to add, or replace, part of your meal with a side of leafy greens, or lightly steamed/ sauteed veggies at EVERY meal. It could be… garlicky broccoli, steamed spinach, or grilled zucchini with that egg burrito… or sauteed brussel sprouts and roasted cauliflower instead of fries with that steak… or heck! It could be as simple as enjoying a leafy green salad with avocado, lemon juice and sea salt before you head out and grab a slice of something.

HEALTHY LIVING

Start with these simple tips. Practice them daily.

You’ll bounce back quicker every time.

How do you bounce back after an indulgent weekend?

Are you ready for Lauren to be a regular in this space?

OH WHERE HAVE I BEEN

I have missed this space. I have missed writing and letting my feelings and thoughts flow onto the page. I cannot tell you how many times I have opened up this document and started to write a few sentences and then BOOM I am pulled in a different direction. It has been a long time AGAIN since I have taken the time to write here and just chit chat away. Work, life, and relationships take a priority these days and this space is last on the list. I want that to change...and it starts NOW!

What's Next?

You would think that working from home I would have so much extra time to do all the things and that is exactly the exact opposite. But I am tired of making excuses, so I am holding myself accountable to commit to this space, because there is something inspiring, powerful, and releasing for me, when I write it down. It opens up more space for me emotionally, because sometimes I am just better at putting my thoughts into words. Let’s just get started and start the conversation…

I’m A Sucker For Quotes - I LOVE LOVE LOVE a good quote. I use them all the time for my Instagram posts, share them in my Instagram stories, I have quote books all over my desk. When I read a good quote and it resonates with me, I soak in all the goodness and let it sit and use it where I see fit.

Simple and straight to the point, this one spoke to me. At 40 years old, I can fully admit that I am still learning, growing, and changing. It can be scary AF, but embracing the changes physically, emotionally, and professionally is empowering. I can be VERY stubborn when it comes to change, but this year and new decade has already taught me so much already and I am just going with the flow, instead of fighting it.

My relationships and my career are bursting at the seams with positive energy and I believe this has happened because of my willingness to change, to ask for help, to communicate better, and most importantly to believe in my TRUTH and my GOALS.

Giving Myself A Break - I am tired…I have been working my ASS OFF this Summer. It has been intense and it just is not slowing down. I am grateful for this workload and my clients, but goodness gracious the crazy world of social media just never ever STOPS. Between work, my own personal training, figuring out what the heck is going to happen with this brand and space, and travel, it has been just non-stop. We leave tomorrow for a getaway up to Wisconsin to see Shannon’s family and friends and I desperately need to give myself a break. I need to step away from the computer, the phone, and just REST. I am ready to be on the water without my phone and not to worry about posting. My brain and body need a break and I am going to gratefully give it just that.

I sometimes feel that in this space I repeat myself a lot and I probably do, because well sometimes we need to repeat ourselves to remind ourselves that we need to make changes to live better. RIGHT?! Oh hey there is that word CHANGE again…I will be the first to admit that some things I am willing to change and then others I have a hard time making a change…Work is one of them. But baby steps…I will eventually get there.

What's Next?

Upcoming Blog Posts - Lately, I have had all these topics that I have wanted to discuss here and maybe that time away was necessary, so that they come naturally, when I am ready to write. There is nothing worse than trying to force something. The time away has allowed my ideas to come forward, so over the next few months or weeks we can chat about:

  • How to get your gut and body back after a FUN Summer weekend! My good friend Lauren, who is a Holistic Nutritionist, published author, and recipe developer, will be doing a guest post to share her tricks of the trade.

  • What is it like working from home?

  • Workouts - Because it has been WAY TOO LONG and it’s time to have some fun with these again!

  • What Keeps Me In My Power? What Takes Me Out of My Power? While listening to Sarah’spodcast at the gym, this was a topic that definitely spoke to me and I thought it would be a fun, educational, inspiring, and get to know me kind of post!

And FOOD Of Course - I love eating and talking about food, but I am no foodie stylist or recipe creator. My meals are easy, simple, and what works for me and my lifestyle. Do y’all have any interest in seeing what I eat? What kind of food posts do you want more of? Tell me in the comments, as I would love to hear from you.

What's Next?

And that is it my friends! I am out of here…It is time to disconnect. It is time to enjoy the time away. It is time to rest. See y’all sooner than you think…Enjoy the Summer weekend! xoxo

A DAY IN MY LIFE

HEY FRIENDS! It AGAIN has been a while since I have written in this space, but gosh darn, life just has a way of becoming super busy and I have to sometimes choose what is a top priority in my life and unfortunately, sometimes this space gets put on the back burner. I wish that wasn’t the case, but it just happens. And this blog post seems appropriate, because then you can kind of get a glimpse into why I do not have as much time to write as much as I would like to. TRUTH - I also do not want to force my posts, because if I have to force it, it doesn’t feel real to me. But when that inspiration comes and I feel the urge to write, I just do it. That inspiration came at 6:00 AM on Thursday morning and it is when I finally was ready to finish this post and have it go LIVE.

A DAY IN MY LIFE

SO...With that being said...

What exactly does a typical day look like for a Social Media Specialist, Fitness and Lifestyle Influencer? It is non-stop, a little kookie, a little messy, very unpredictable, but I LOVE what I do and I LOVE the clients that I represent, and the lifestyle that my profession allows me to live. I do get asked a lot, what is it that I REALLY do and I think I can save that for another post, because it is a mouthful. Let’s just start with what a day to day schedule looks like for me on a Typical Tuesday!

5:15 - 5:30 AM - I wake up and start brewing that first cup of coffee. It is definitely still dark out, but I like this quiet time in the morning. It is peaceful and I will usually light a candle, and do some tidying up in the kitchen, while I wait for my coffee. Shannon is still sleeping and Lucy usually comes over by my desk and snores away, but, of course, is ALWAYS by my side.

5:30 AM - 7:00 AM - I start working. I check and respond to all emails on each one of my accounts. I check and respond to all social media platforms. I LOVE this time to work, because no one else is awake and no one can respond to me, so I leave for my workout with a clean slate. B O O M!

7:15 AM - 10:15 AM - I leave for downtown to head to The Works! I sweat it out for a double session and it is AMAZING! It is my favorite way to start my morning.I leave it ALL on that mat and get my strength, cardio, and stretch workouts in and I feel like a rock star! It is intense and a hot sweaty mess, but my head and heart are clear and I am ready to tackle the day.

A DAY IN MY LIFE

10:30 AM - 4:00 PM - I come home, shower, and start working. Once, I sit down at my computer it is game on and I am focused and just get in the groove to doing it all. Emails, ordering, posting, engaging, scheduling, creating, inspiring, and just tackling as much as my brain can handle. I typically eat at my desk...I may even do some meal prep while working, so I get up and take a mental break...I might even do some random cleaning...take Lucy out for some fresh air. Sometimes, if I super focused and in the zone, I can just plow through these hours and get the job DONE.

A DAY IN MY LIFE

4:00 PM - 4:30 PM - I need a BREAK! Depending on how my body is feeling, I will either walk Lucy for a quick 30-minute walk or I will run some errands. This is typically the time of day, I am running to the post office to return items I bought online...I’m notorious for always returning things! GAH!

4:30 - 7:00 PM - I am back and it is time to “try” and shut things down. I will check all my emails again and go through the whole routine that I do earlier in the day. I am typically trying to whip something up for dinner, which is never complicated or glamorous. I am honestly usually so DONE by the end of the day, that dinners at home are so easy and thrown into a bowl or plate. So while, the sweet potatoes are roasting, I will be working, doing some things around the condo, or scrolling.

7:30 PM - It is typically when I eat dinner and FINALLY feel like I have accomplished everything on my list of stuff to do. I am done with the computer, but I will spend at least 1 more hour working for my clients on their accounts and mine, but by 9:00 PM that is it...DONE DONE AND DONE! It is time to read, or watch my shows, unwind, and try to fall asleep.

My job is non-stop and I am always scrolling, liking, responding, posting, and trying to make sure I am representing my clients and myself the best way possible. It can be stressful and hard, but at the end of the day I truly love every second of it and grateful that I am able to do this day in and day out.

With that being said, Saturday I am FULLY disconnecting for the weekend! I may pop in here and there and share some IG stories, but it’s going to be a busy weekend and I want to be present with the ones I love and enjoy the moments that don’t revolve around social media.

Have a beautiful Easter weekend and see y’all soon! xoxo
